Photos from above

Bit of a shocker week last week, what with colds and migraines (never had one before and I hope to never have one again) and horrid weather. I literally walked smack bang into a tree a few days ago and last night Leo sneezed a booger into my eye. That's the kind of week we had.
Still, we did our best and enjoyed our weekly Fair Food fruit and veg box, had exciting times with new mega blocks from the toy library, and I started sorting through THE STASH. I really should have ironed before photographing, but given the above information, that was never going to happen.
Hope we all have a better week this week! xx

Happy Winter Solstice!

(for those of us down under).

It's quite apt that it's today. The rain has not stopped all morning, there are several noses running in our house and my head feels ready to explode. Leo and I have been using my new lovely silky scarf (thanks Nancybird sale!) as a clothes rack cubby cover - perfect for running through and playing peekaboo.

Ok, and I admit... we've also watched two episodes of play school.
(and such is my lack of energy that I didn't even clean up the mess in the background or take the camera setting off automatic, so apologies but that's just the way things are today!).

Music Mondays #3

It's monday and I'm feeling the need for a bit of country.
Cue Johnny Cash.
This song has been around for a while but I only discovered it a couple of years ago, and it blew me away. It's actually a song written by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails but was covered by Cash not long before he passed away. The clip is just amazing and quite moving... I'm afraid it's another tear jerker.
I'll lighten things up next time, don't worry.

Have a great week!

Help!

Alright... I need some advice! So we've been tackling the sleeping thing and now there's no more night feeds. The poppet - almost 18 months - is often waking up early in the mornings but I can handle that (thanks hubby). But lately, he's been wanting to breastfeed more often during the day. Usually, I feed him in the morning, before his lunchtime nap and then again before bedtime and he's been happy with that. But lately, he's constantly grabbing me, hands down my shirt, head in my chest, crying and cranky if I refuse. What's that about?
My theory is that he's taking pretty big developmental steps at the moment and so is checking in for regular comfort and respite from his big new world. But it's come at a time when I'm thinking about weaning him off the boob for good, which is seeming less and less likely or possible!
He's cranky and tantrum-y too lately, which is very unlike him. Perhaps just an age thing?

Anyone else had this experience? Ideas? Theories?
I'm feeling a lack of energy to tackle it at the moment, and am needing some outside help. But the internet overwhelms me for things like this and I seem to be the only one of my mummy friends still breastfeeding, so I thought I'd check in here!
I'd love to hear your thoughts...

June 12, 2012

these are a few of my favourite things...

While writing a post for the Creative Women's Circle this month, I snapped some pics of a couple of my favourite things... two beautiful antique handmade quilts that I bought in Pakistan 9 years ago. If you asked me that old chestnut, "what would you save from your burning house?" these quilts would be quite high up on the list. I adore them...

And if you're wondering about this week's Music Monday, I've decided to do it every two weeks... just to give me a chance to write about other things as well! So stay tuned for another corker song next monday...

Music Mondays #2

I hope you all had a lovely weekend (still going in some parts of the world, I think...)

Today, I'm sharing another favourite song of mine for the second week of Music Mondays. You can see last week's here if you missed it.
This song is by Canadian band, Land of Talk and it is incredible. It was on a play list I put together for our trip to France and Spain in 2009 and I can still picture myself on the TGV whizzing through the French countryside whenever I hear it. It's the sort of song that you play once, and then just have to put it on one more time. And then just once more. I recommend significant volume.

(oh, and a word of warning... it regularly makes me cry).

And another update before the weekend arrives...

The voting is now open for the Umbrella Prints trimmings competition. There are some Amazing entries made by a whole lot of creative ladies. If you feel so inclined, you can have a look at my entry, posted about here and give it a vote!
